Photo of the Week.

Mike Baker has been at it again with what could possibly be one of the best shots of Mangamanu ever taken.

The light at the end of the tunnel.

Could this prophecy below infact spell the end of our miserable run of anti surf weather.

Mangamanu Tuesday

Heaps of photos filtering through from Tuesday's Mangamanu with what sounded like half the of the South Island's surfers getting amongst it whilst the rest of us slaved on the grindstone.
The Lucky ones who should have been at work but werent included ..... Surfer 1 Surfer 2 and Surfer 3.
Surfer 4 and 5 were also there too!!!!    Lucky Boys!!!! Good to see the Nelson lads getting amongst it elsewhere as our local swells have ceased to exist!!

Going for Gold, Gone.

Last weekend saw the Go For Gold surf contest go down in good old Greymouth at the Cobden breakwater. Travelling down with my family and later joined by Bruce Wilson there were some great waves up and down the coast and with the little bit of dissapointment at not making it far through the event in was also a great excuse to shoot up the coast to score some empty waves with one session in particular yielding perfect 6ft with sometimes bigger near 3 times overhead lefthanders with just myself and Bruce happier than pigs in poo.

Cyclone Lusi

In what could possibly go down as one of the biggest teases in Nelson surf history Cyclone "Lusi" looked set to deliver the goods in what was undoubtedly going to be the best swell in 5 years as the system maintained its category 2 status as it hit Cape Reinga. However in true Nelson fashion it was more unpredictable than a cat on acid as numerous swell checks left everyone disturbed by the apparent lack of swell when seemingly it should have been 6 foot plus. So basically it went from flat to 6ft on the Sunday arvo and a few crew got some howling offshore Cable Bay with a couple of sets closing out the whole bay on the low tide and in all honsety the bay probably hasnt closed out for a good 5 years so we got that part right!! The next morning in even more true Nelson fashion... it was 2 to 3ft and crosshore with a friendly session going down at Rabbit Island and this superb shot from Bill Evans below of Cameron Ford at Snappers realistically being the only image worth crediting the big fizzer called Lusi with.
